To join Sunrise Youth Group, please contact the office to fill out a membership application. After filling out the application an interview will be arranged with the Program and Recreational Manager. There is a membership fee of $150 which provides you with access to all our Recreational Programs, and as well as our Day Program, for one year (April 1st to March 31st). The cost is pro-rated after the first 3 months. Please contact us for information regarding specific program costs. Some of the programs are in higher demand than others, so these activities have a waiting list. You must be a member of Sunrise to be added to the waiting list for certain programs. Our dances, drama and club nights are also available to non-members. Our recreational programs are 100% volunteer/student supported along with our volunteer/student coordinator. Without our dedicated volunteers and students none of the Sunrise Recreational Programs would be possible!
Programs Include:
Club Night Club Nights are themed events that can be cooking nights, sports night, movie nights and anything in between. Club Night is typically smaller in scale and a great venue for great conversation. Club Nights also act as a great program to start your volunteer career at SYG because of its laid-back atmosphere and environment conductive to really getting to get to know someone. This is a program that participants on our waiting list are welcome to sign up for. The cost is $8 for members and $10 for non-members.
Dances/Special Events Every other month the SYG building is host to a dance or a special event. At SYG dances your favourite retro tunes, new favourites and tons of people getting their grooves on is priority number one. Some times in lieu of a dance SYG will host a special event, this can include anything from live music, to a magician, to karaoke. Special Events are always a good time for members and volunteers and a great opportunity to make new friends and further existing friendships. Costumes, although not required, are always encouraged! Dances typically occur on Thursdays of every other month at our office in Whitby. The cost is $15 for members and $20 for non-members and includes snacks/drinks and a great time!
Wilderness Weekends Wilderness Weekends take place at Darlington Provincial Park in Oshawa, Ontario where relaxation and getting back to nature is the name of the game. Between setting the tents up on Friday and taking them down on Sunday we like to hang out on the beach and in the water, sit and sing around the campfire, play sports and games as well as do some crafts. Wilderness Weekends are packed with fun things to do and a great way to really build friendships with participants and volunteers alike. Cost is 180.00 a weekend for members only.
Cabin Retreats Cabin Retreat weekends happen all year around when SYG brings the party into cabins for the weekend. Cabin retreats are a great way to unwind after a tough week at school or work with all of your friends from SYG. Hanging out, telling great stories, and watching movies and playing fun games are what Cabin Retreats are all about. Cabin retreats are held at Camp Samac in Oshawa, Ontario. Cabin retreats are for members only and cost 280.00 for the weekend.
Day Trips
Each summer, SYG plans different trips around the GTA and Durham Region. A group of Sunrise members and volunteers hop on the bus and head to the Blue Jays, the Toronto Zoo, the Ontario Science Centre, Petticoat Creek, Nova's Ark, and Ontario Place (just to name a few). This is a great way to spend a hot summer day with friends. Day trips are for members only and cost $70.00 each.
Dinner and a Movie Nights New in 2009, dinner and movie nights are perfect for movie buffs! Who doesn't love a good meal and a good film! Get together with friends at SYG to help cook a meal and watch a new DVD release on our big screen! Popcorn and snacks will also be served! Dinner and Movie Nights are for members only and cost $25.00 each.
Club Days New in 2009, club days are a fun day filled with themed activities - like sports, drama and music! Members and volunteers alike meet at the SYG office to hang out for the day which could include bowling, movies, skits, karaoke and so much more! Lunch is also included!
Drama Night New in April 2012 to SYG will be our active approach to drama! Drama nights will be used to help members tell their story. They will learn the understanding of images and strengthen their abilities to observe and understand personal roles and expressions. This will include skits, games, facial expressions, sounds, music, and most of all FUN! The goal of drama night is to develop new coping skills and patterns, broadening the range of expression of feelings, experiencing positive interactions, and developing relationships and friends. Drama nights are for members and non members. They cost $10.00 for members and $20.00 for non members.
New Year's Eve
Looking for the best party in town on December 31st? If you’re into dressing up in your fanciest clothes, sipping on punch and dancing all night long, you’d fit right in at SYG on New Years. We deck out the entire Ademac building in the fanciest duds and dance in the New Year with old and new friends! Volunteers are always needed to help us decorate and dance the night away in order to help make the evening memorable for all! Come stay the night in Blackstock, at Ademac with us! New Years Eve Bash is for members only and costs $75.00 each.
Camp Wabikon
Can you think of a better way to end the summer than a week long trip to a residential camp in beautiful Temagami, Ontario? Camp Wabikon is the place to be for a week of swimming, sports, games, crafts, dances, skits, and some of the best food you will eat all summer. With a new theme every year Camp Wabikon is always fun, fresh and exciting, so come on out for the best week of the entire summer! Camp Wabikon is for members only and costs $980.00 for the entire week.
